Spandex is often also called elastane or lycra and is a synthetic fabric with a polymer base, it is very similar to Nylon or Polyester. Spandex, is very suited to certain uses such as sports clothing. Spandex can expand up to six times it size and go back to its original shape without losing its look. Spandex is stronger than rubber but is lightweight, soft, smooth and supple. Spandex is dyeable and is also available in clear and opaque appearances.
