Each monument consists of a detailed replica of a helmet, boots, and rifle from that soldier’s era. A plaque giving the soldier’s name, rank, and date of death is affixed to the base, where the flowers from their families were placed.The ceremony was concluded with a 21 gun salute by the VVA 553, and a rendition of “Taps” by Leo Kerner student Melissa Porter.Guests then stayed to enjoy jambalaya cooked by Morgan Perrin, and visit with others from the community.
